During the festive period in December, we featured a talented Chef – “Spicy” Susan Quah. Since then we’ve received copious queries and interests in Susan’s set menus and services. So we’ve decided to speak with one of Susan’s clients, Vernie, about her and her family's recent engagement with the private Chef.
Vernie Quek-Wong engaged the services of Susan for her mother who had undergone a mastectomy recently. The private Chef took care of Mrs. Quek’s diet for 10 days, including lunch and dinner. “My mom had to stick to a simple diet of fish, pork, and fresh vegetables to help her wounds heal nicely,” Vernie said.
“No complicated dishes but simple home cooking using the freshest ingredients for maximum nutritional values.”
Vernie added that she had engaged Susan to ensure that her mother was getting the proper nutrients to heal as well as to “build her immunity for her chemo treatments”.
Over the course of her service with Mrs. Quek, Susan also extended her offer to cook a “Filipino feast” for Vernie’s family. “She was able to give us 'Little Manila' in the comfort of our own home!” Vernie exclaimed.
It is evident that Vernie was smitten by the private Chef’s culinary knowledge and talent that she listed numerous reasons why you should hire a private Chef for your family. “Susan was able to cook the desired menus by using less salt and oil by replacing them with other spices to enhance the taste and aroma of the dishes. She was competent in lessening the salt content without sacrificing the overall taste of her cooking,” Vernie explained.

She added: “Susan has a wide knowledge of various Asian cuisines and can adapt them to Singaporean tastes. She also has a good knowledge in using Chinese herbs to cook medicinal recipes, which are very beneficial for women after childbirth; suitable for the confinement period.”
The Chef, who’s lived in Manila for 14 years, is not only popular for her exceptional knowledge of Asian cooking. Her gregarious personality and hospitable nature (gained through running her own restaurant) makes her a top choice for anyone who wants to engage a Chef for their private party.
When asked if Susan’s cooking services are wallet-friendly, Vernie explained the real value of her services: “Considering the attention to detail she puts into her work, and seeing my mom and family enjoying her cooking, it is certainly worth the price of gold!”
